L’Aquila, December 2nd 2024 – Gran Sasso Tech (GST) and the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) are pleased to announce SPACERAISE, an International Doctoral School for space applications with high technological and scientific contents.
SPACERAISE adopts a multidisciplinary approach, integrating fundamental research from the Computer Science department of the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI), insights from prestigious international faculty, real-world industrial applications from leading Aerospace Industries and speakers from space agencies (including NASA and ESA).
SPACERAISE is structured in three specialized modules – each lasting one week – covering the most relevant challenges of software engineering in the space domain:
- Artificial Intelligence for Aerospace, covering topics such as AI onboard applications for predictive
maintenance, image recognition, and anomaly detection; - Robotics for Space Applications, covering topics such as Programming and safety-focused solutions
for space exploration and maintenance robots; - Digital Twins for Space Manufacturing and Satellites, covering topics such as Digital twin technologies
in satellite production for predictive analytics and automation.
SPACERAISE, offered in English language only, will take place in L’Aquila (Italy) from the 12th to the 30th of May 2025, and is open to Ph.D. students, Master’s students, Researchers and Industry professionals.

They are not only improving the operational capabilities of the sector, but also laying the foundations for a more autonomous, innovative and sustainable industry.”
Martina De Sanctis, Assistant Professor in Computer Science at GSSI and scientific coordinator of SPACERAISE declared: “SPACERAISE offers a unique opportunity for young talents to immerse themselves in the challenges and innovations of space software engineering. This advanced training program not only provides an exceptional educational experience but also encourages scientific exchange between students, researchers, and faculty, with contributions from esteemed experts. For three weeks, the city of L’Aquila will serve as the vibrant hub for this extraordinary sharing of knowledge and ideas, creating a dynamic and stimulating environment for all participants.”
Online registration opened on December 1, 2024 and will close on January 31st, 2025. Successful applicants will be able to attend all scientific sessions, social activities, and coffee breaks with no registration fee to pay. Additionally, SPACERAISE will offer a number of merit-based grants. Gran Sasso Tech encourages applications from different countries, diverse backgrounds and different career stages.
SPACERAISE is founded by Rome Technopole, Spoke 3, within the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), mission 4.2.1.5 and is under the patronage of Regione Abruzzo.
